is a unique education program crafted by Sri Ayesha specifically tailored for typically developing students in Level 1.
Within the Dar-Salam classroom (ages six to nine), initial expectations revolve around the child’s ability to accept direction, actively listen during group presentations, and engage in cooperative learning settings.
Each child is provided with clear expectations outlined in the form of a personalized work plan or contract. Teachers typically distribute individual plans on a weekly or bi-monthly basis, offering guidance tailored to the child’s learning needs and ensuring alignment with educational standards set by the Ministry of Education (MOE).
At Dar-Salam, children actively participate in running the classroom. From day one, they collectively establish and discuss class rules, take on various responsibilities, and assist one another, fostering an environment conducive to efficient learning.
The teacher assumes the roles of a role model, mentor, and guide within the classroom. While interfering as little as possible with the children’s work, the teacher provides captivating lessons, resolves conflicts when they arise, and maintains open communication channels with both students and families regarding the children’s progress.
Teachers at Dar-Salam empower children by granting them freedom and choice as they demonstrate readiness, encouraging autonomy and self-directed learning.
Children at Dar-Salam earn privileges independently, starting with the same rights. However, if a child struggles to handle certain freedoms or responsibilities, the teacher retains the authority to temporarily revoke them until the child can manage them effectively and safely.
Each child maintains their work in personal record books, typically notebooks where work for each subject is meticulously recorded. These record books and papers are stored neatly in designated storage spaces or cubbies, promoting organization and accountability.
Unlike assigned work spots, Dar-Salam children have designated areas for keeping their belongings. Materials in the classroom are shared, fostering an environment of collaboration and cooperation. This arrangement encourages patience and teaches children how to work harmoniously with others.
