Dar-Iftah & Dar-Izzah
Nurturing Greatness in Adolescence
The adolescent must never be treated as a child, for that is a stage of life that he has surpassed. It is better to treat an adolescent as if he had greater value than he actually shows than as if he had less and let him feel that his merits and self-respect are disregarded – Maria Montessori
Dar-Iftah (Abode of the Opening) & Dar-Izzah, meaning Abode of Greatness
are the comprehensive programs tailored for adolescents aged 12 to 18, drawing inspiration from the Montessori philosophy’s third plane of development. This crucial stage focuses on preparing students for adulthood, emphasizing leadership, management, volunteerism, conflict resolution, and spiritual upliftment.
Leadership Development
Central to the Dar-Izzah program is the cultivation of leadership skills. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the classroom and community, learning to inspire and motivate others while leading by example.
Management Skills
Adolescents are guided in developing effective management strategies, equipping them with the organizational and time-management skills necessary for success in academic, personal, and professional endeavors.
Volunteerism and Service
Service to others is instilled as a core value, fostering a sense of empathy and responsibility towards one’s community. Students engage in volunteer activities, both within and outside the school, contributing positively to society and honing their sense of civic duty.
Conflict Resolution
Adolescents learn constructive methods for resolving conflicts and managing disagreements, promoting peaceful dialogue and mutual understanding. By fostering empathy and communication skills, students are empowered to navigate conflicts with maturity and compassion.
Spiritual Upliftment
Spiritual growth is nurtured through al-Quran & Sunnah reflection, introspection, and mindfulness practices. Students are encouraged to integrate the Islamic principles and values (Tarbiyah-based pedagogy) in learning, cultivating a sense of purpose and inner peace as they journey towards becoming conscientious and compassionate individuals.
Good Citizenship
The Dar-Izzah program instills a deep sense of civic responsibility, encouraging students to actively participate in shaping a better world. Through engagement in social and environmental initiatives, students develop a strong sense of citizenship and stewardship towards their communities and the planet.
Role as Caliphs
Inspired by Islamic teachings, students are encouraged to embody the role of caliphs, or stewards of the Earth. They are guided to recognize their responsibility to safeguard the environment, promote justice and equity, and strive for the betterment of humanity as compassionate and ethical leaders.
Holistic Development
Dar-Iftah & Dar-Izzah prioritize the holistic development of adolescents, nurturing their intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. By providing a supportive and enriching environment, students are empowered to realize their full potential and make meaningful contributions to society as agents of positive change.
